Day by day

  1. Day 1

    Iquitos to the lodge

Met at the airport, a short orientation of Iquitos and down to the dock. Twenty-five miles down the Amazon to Ceiba Tops. An afternoon hike in the primary forest reserve around the lodge, past enormous trees loaded with epiphytes, and after dinner a short walk to a lake where caimans and the night chorus of frogs and insects take over.

    Overnight: Ceiba Tops Lodge

  2. Day 2

    Yagua community and the dolphins

A boat to a Yagua community, where the guide explains the culture and what has changed, and the elders demonstrate the blowgun. In the afternoon, out on the river looking for pink and grey dolphins, and fishing for piranha — the Amazon holds more fish species than the entire Atlantic.

    Overnight: Ceiba Tops Lodge

  3. Day 3

    The canopy walkway

A day at the level where most Amazon life actually happens: a suspended walkway through the treetops, where the birds, the monkeys and the epiphytes are, rather than the dim floor below.

    Overnight: Ceiba Tops Lodge

  4. Day 4

    Back to Iquitos

Upriver to Iquitos and transfer to the airport.
